Grape Variety: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris (Fehérburgundi and Szürkebarát in Hungarian)
Producer: Franz Weninger
Region: Sopron, Hungary
Certified Organic and Biodynamic
Suitable for Vegans
Wild Scale 4/5
Winemaking: Grapes were hand harvested and then spontaneously fermented on the skins with indigenous yeast for 12 days. Natural malolactic conversion and aged for 16 months in old wooden barrel. Small amount of sulphur added on bottling. No fining or filtration. Only 1200 bottles produced.
This Wine: This is the first vintage of this cuvee. Franz planted what he thought were Pinot Noir vines on this particular plot back in 1999 but 3 years later they turned out to be a mix of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc much to his surprise. The wine itself is beautifully hazy with a pinkish, orange colour. Herbaceous, Citrus and Apricot aromas with a hint of red berries. Dry. Decant if possible and get out of the fridge 30 minutes before drinking.
Notes on the Winemaker: Franz Weninger grew up in Burgenland, the region in East Austria that borders Hungary. He runs two wineries, one in each country using biodynamic techniques with a deep commitment to the environment. His wines offer outstanding value for such high quality.
