Winemaking: Organic Muscat grapes were hand harvested and de-stemmed before maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast in a mixture of clay amphora and old oak barrels. Aged for 10 months on the lees. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Skin contact Zibibbo from the tiny island in between Sicily and Tunisia. This is a unique expression of the grape with lots of herbal character along with apricot flavours. Imagine a Sauvignon Blanc crossed with Muscat and you're not too far off. A wine that works best with food, particularly fish or vegetables.
Notes on the Winemaker: Marco Bartoli sadly passed away on 2011 but not before taking huge strides in his winemaking region of Sicily and Pantelleria. He converted to organic farming and insisted on manual harvesting. His children now run the winery and make wines from local grape varieties.
